Širvintų sporto klubas presents Values to young athletes from Lithuania

On March 1, 2026, Širvintų sporto klubas organised an Erasmus+ project event called “Values” in Širvintų, during which they discussed with local youth which sports values are most important to them.

During the event, they presented the Erasmus+ Values project to more than 40 young people from Širvintų and discussed with them which sports values matter most and why it is important to provide opportunities for girls to participate in sports. Participants unanimously agreed that sport is not only about results on the scoreboard, but also about patience, self-confidence and trust in others, endurance, and discipline. The girls emphasized that sport is not only a way to maintain physical fitness, but also a way to strengthen mental health and cope with anxiety.

To ensure that values such as fairness and leadership do not remain just theoretical, we tested unexpected experiments on the volleyball court. During the game, changing rules (for example, the winner being the one who scores the last point just before time runs out) created a real storm of emotions. This forced players to adapt instantly and experience in practice how value-based decisions work in tense situations.

This event is only part of a project running from 2025 to 2027, implemented by the Širvintos Sports Club together with partners from Slovenia, Serbia, and Montenegro. Very soon, coaches will be introduced to interactive training sessions and a special toolkit that will help incorporate not only technical exercises into daily training, but also foster a fair, supportive, and environmentally friendly sports community.
